Liquid nitrogen (LN2) is nitrogen in a liquid state at low temperature. Liquid nitrogen has a boiling point of about −196 °C (−321 °F; 77 K). It is produced industrially by fractional distillation of liquid air.
Liquid nitrogen is formed when nitrogen is cooled to temperatures far below zero. The density of liquid nitrogen is 806.59 kg/m³ at atmospheric pressure and an energy capacity of 199.32 kJ/kg. In its liquid form, it manifests itself very similar to water.
18 Ιουλ 2022 · Liquid nitrogen is the liquefied form of the element nitrogen that's produced commercially by the fractional distillation of liquid air. Like nitrogen gas, it consists of two nitrogen atoms sharing covalent bonds (N 2). Sometimes liquid nitrogen is denoted as LN 2, LN, or LIN.
When nitrogen is converted to liquid form it becomes a cryogenic liquid. Cryogenic liquids are liquefied gases that have a normal boiling point below -150 °C (-238 °F). Liquid nitrogen has a boiling point of -195.8 °C (-320.5 °F).
Below 35.4 K (−237.6 °C) nitrogen assumes the cubic crystal allotropic form (called the alpha phase). [49] Liquid nitrogen, a colourless fluid resembling water in appearance, but with 80.8% of the density (the density of liquid nitrogen at its boiling point is 0.808 g/mL), is a common cryogen. [50]
12 Σεπ 2022 · Describe the properties, preparation, and uses of nitrogen. Most pure nitrogen comes from the fractional distillation of liquid air. The atmosphere consists of 78% nitrogen by volume. This means there are more than 20 million tons of nitrogen over every square mile of the earth’s surface.
Liquid fertilizers comprise anhydrous ammonia, aqueous solutions of ammonia, aqueous solutions of ammonium nitrate or urea. These concentrated products may be diluted with water to form a concentrated liquid fertilizer (e.g., UAN). Advantages of liquid fertilizer are its more rapid effect and easier coverage. [24]
