Different brands and different models of microscopes position the key parts differently. When you first sit in front of a microscope, you should always take a second to find the key parts, especially the focus knobs, the condenser adjustment knob (if present), and the stage control knobs.
The condenser aids in the focusing of the light onto the specimen. It can be moved up and down using the condenser knob that is located on the left side of the stage. You should always have the condenser set in the highest position.
