Young workers in this area may also be exposed to the following hazards: Burns. Deep fat fryers. Electrical hazards. Fire hazards. Heat hazards. Slips/Trips/Falls. Strains and sprains.

9 Αυγ 2024 · Like other oils, cooking oil is a highly flammable liquid. To prevent flare-ups and house fires, avoid letting oil contact direct flames. Because of this hazard, it is highly recommended to have a kitchen fire extinguisher available when deep-frying.
Require heat resistant gloves, aprons and face shields when workers handle cooking oil. Require workers to wear closed-toed, slip-resistant shoes when handling cooking oil to help prevent slips, trips, and falls that could lead to spillage.
To meet OSHA standards, employers who have fixed extinguishing systems must: • Substitute (temporarily) a fire watch of trained employees to respond to fire emergencies when a fire suppression system is out of service. • Ensure that the fire watch is included in the fire prevention plan and the emergency action plan.
COOKING OIL STORAGE. Cooking oil, both used and new, to be stored on bunded pallets in a secured store, or yard and preferably remote from the main buildings and other combustible goods such as waste receptacles, pallets, gas cylinders etc.
