Legally, the 429 cubic inch V8 engine put out 375 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque with the potential to see 500 hp through some light modifications.
The sleek lines, powerful engines and machine strength of muscle cars, in particular, have attracted us since the late 1960s, when performance and design filtered down from the luxury model and into the realm of the attainable.
The rarest of the bunch are manual transmission convertibles, with only four reported to have been built, while 1971 426 Hemi ‘Cudas are one of the most valuable classic muscle cars on the market today. A convertible version earned a bid of $4.8 million at a Mecum auction as recently as 2021.
