Prescription abbreviations like qd, hs, or bid can sometimes be found on your medication labels. These abbreviations are derived from the Latin words for "every day," "at bedtime," and "twice daily," respectively.
The best one at Walgreens is the + sign. For almost every drug, IC+ is set up with a default for the ‘+’. So instead of typing TK 1 T PO BID you just type +BID and it expands just like the longer sig does. IIRC, the + is called SmartSig. It’s even set up for some liquids: +QID is TAKE 1 TEASPOONFUL BY MOUTH FOUR TIMES DAILY.
Study with Quizlet and memorize flashcards containing terms like Tk 1 t po q am, Tk 1-2 ts po HS PRN sleep, Apply top AA BID PRN x 14 days and more.
Use the plus sign with frequency for common sigs such as +qd for tk 1 t/c po qd. Double check telephones for MD as sometimes they do not match the eRx number and that is a HIPPA violation to have the wrong office attached to the Rx.
Most of the abbreviated order was correctly interpreted: TK 1 T PO QD was correctly interpreted as take 1 tablet by mouth daily. However, the abbreviation WF was misinterpreted as Wednesday and Friday, while the prescriber had in-tended the abbreviation to mean “with food.” The resident received 2 doses of Xarelto per week.
