Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and the surrounding country contain oases and woodlands that shelter birds and other fauna from the harsh desert climate. Year-round residents include the Verdin, Black-throated Sparrow, LeConte’s Thrasher, Crissal Thrasher, White-winged Dove, Gambel’s Quail and Costa’s Hummingbird.
