All salons must apply for licensure at www.pals.pa.gov and file the correct application with the State Board of Cosmetology. All salons must be inspected and pass inspection prior to operating per the Board’s Regulations.

Cosmetologists in Pennsylvania need 1,250 hours (or 2,000 apprenticeship hours) to qualify for the exam and be eligible for immediate licensure. If you have completed 900 hours of schooling, but less than 1,250 hours, you can take the early examination.
