The crisis intervention approaches provide a useful beginning (i.e., restoring safety and emotional stabilization) and conclusion (i.e., solving problems and accessing resources) for the resolution of crises—but a crucial intermediate phase is needed.
Crisis intervention primarily means prevention of an imminent danger of suicide. Crisis intervention should provide care and protection to the individual, i.e., protection of life, since suicide attempts often require medical care such as admission to an internal intensive care unit for detoxification or a surgical intervention.
