Basic Description. American Crows are familiar over much of the continent: large, intelligent, all-black birds with hoarse, cawing voices. They are common sights in treetops, fields, and roadsides, and in habitats ranging from open woods and empty beaches to town centers.

Their size varies across the different species, but on average, they tend to weigh between 11 to 21 ounces, have a body length around 17 inches and a wingspan that averages 30 inches.
Lives in a wide variety of semi-open habitats, from farming country and open fields to clearings in the woods. Often found on shores, especially in the Pacific Northwest, where the coastal population was formerly considered a separate species called “Northwestern Crow.”. Avoids hot desert zones.
