INSTRUCTIONS FOR WRITING THE COMPOSITION PLACEMENT CHALLENGE AND RE-EVALUATION ESSAY-----Not all students need to write the placement essay, so before you begin please review the detailed information about CSU’s Composition Placement Procedures at http://composition.colostate.edu/students/placement.
Testing: Achieving a score of 5 on the Advanced Placement English Composition and Literature Test; or a score of 4 or 5 on the Advanced Placement English Language and Composition Test; or placing in CO150-section 550 (credit by exam for CO150) on the Composition Placement Challenge and Re-Evaluation Essay.
The Composition Placement/Challenge Exam is a 60-minute impromptu summary/response essay test. Students don't need to sign up for a test session, just show up with a pen and a photo ID. It's best to show up 10-15 minutes early--testing will begin promptly!
Placement English Language and Composition Test; or placing in CO 150 -section 550 (credit by exam for CO 150) on the Composition Placement Challenge and Re-evaluation Essay.
English ACT Test: 22 or higher. 19-21 and completed 12th grade approved yearlong English course (ERWC, AB, IB, Weighted Honors) with grade of C- or better. High School Courses and GPA: Weighted GPA 3.3 or above. GPA 3.0 or above and completed an approved senior yearlong English course** with a grade of C- or better.
