2 Οκτ 2019 · I tried to replicate the error - I opened an excel file, did conditional formatting, saved as csv but same, the colour was gone when reopening the file. Very strange. Does that mean I can only save formatted csv as excel workbook (however it doesn't seem making sense)?

6 Φεβ 2017 · Directly open CSV file in Excel: Open MS Excel and go to Open. Select the CSV file and open it. When you select the CSV file then click on the file type Text Files (*.prn, *.txt, *.csv). This selection will help to list the the file of these formats.
20 Φεβ 2024 · When saving a file as a CSV, Excel will remove any formatting from the cells and save only the values. This is because CSV files are plain text files and do not support formatting.
4 Answers. Sorted by: 10. Don't double click on the CSV file because that will auto format the columns. Instead create a new spreadsheet and use the Data Import and you can manually format the columns to TEXT to avoid cutting off numbers and silly auto formatting. Share. 3 Ιαν 2021 · Because a CSV file ignores colors and formatting, I don't think there's a way to restore your work. But be sure you save the file as an Excel file (.xslx) the next time. You can convert your CSV file to a xslx file by pressing Save As and then you have to choose Excel Workbook as the file type (on Windows 10): Share.
