Broad Ripple had the Patio for New Wave/Punk music, 62nd Street for live rock, and the Vogue for bigger name bands. Downtown was pretty bleak for nightlife, but had some decent restaurants like La Scala and the St. Moritz Steakhouse. The Slippery Noodle was open but I don't remember going there.

History. The plat of Broad Ripple from 1837. The public school system dates back to at least 1843, when Washington Township School Number Five was built. Washington Township School Number Fourteen was built in 1854.
Broad Ripple Village is the longest established of seven cultural districts in the City of Indianapolis. Located six miles north of downtown, the neighborhood was established in 1836 by Jacob Coil on the banks of the White River, is the only district located outside of the downtown area.

CT Peppers used to be a very happening place along College Avenue in Broad Ripple. It was small with a main floor at street level and lower level dance floor. It could be crowded during peak business. Bands used to play on the tiny stage upstairs. A regular attraction was The Alligator Brothers, featuring Henry Lee Summer and friends.
Indianapolis annexed Broad Ripple in 1922, enabling residents to build higher levees along the river and modernize the fire department. The measures effectively eliminated fires from natural gas deposits and periodic flooding in the area.
