30 Σεπ 2021 · Patients want to know if radiation from mammograms, bone density tests, computed tomography (CT) scans, and so forth will increase their risk of developing cancer. For most women, there's very little risk from routine x-ray imaging such as mammography or dental x-rays.
A CT scan of the abdomen (belly) and pelvis exposes a person to about 10 mSv. A PET/CT exposes you to about 25 mSv of radiation. This is equal to about 8 years of average background radiation exposure. Keep in mind that these are estimates for an average-sized adult.
4 Οκτ 2012 · The major challenges posed by pregnancy, radiosensitive breast tissue, lactation, and an inability to easily exclude ovaries from the imaging field make female patients particularly vulnerable to medical imaging radiation exposure.

An estimated 1 in 270 women who underwent a coronary angiography CT at age 40 will develop cancer from that CT (1 in 600 men), compared with an estimated 1 in 8,100 women who had routine head CT at the same age (1 in 11, 080 men). For 20-year olds the risks were approximately doubled, and for 60-year olds, the risks were approximately 50% lower.
