A curling stone is circular in shape, made of hard, dense granite and weighs approximately 40 to 42 pounds (20kg). A curling stone must be able to resist abrasion, be uniform in colour and non-absorbent. This latter quality is very important because moisture penetrating a stone.
The recommended length of the sheet from backboard to backboard shall be 146 feet (44.501 metres) to 150 feet (45.720 metres). The width of the sheet from sideline to sideline shall be a minimum of 14 feet 2 inches (4.318 metres) and a maximum of 15 feet 7 inches (4.750 metres).
