Currimao is a coastal municipality in the province of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Region (Region I), Philippines. It has a population of 12,215 (2020 Census figures) distributed over 23 barangays.
Pangil Coral Rock Gardens – a series of tidal pools and coralline rock formations stretching for more than two kilometers. Despite its exotic name, Currimao remains to be one of Ilocos Norte's less-visited towns, just like neighboring Badoc. Actually, the town's name carries a lot of history.
Because Currimao is the only navigable part of Ilocos Norte, the early settlement of the place which was then a barrio of the town of Paoay could be traced back as early as the later part or the 19th century. Traders in the port sold or bartered their goods with those of the few inhabitants.
9 Δεκ 2008 · The coastal town of Currimao is blessed with breathtaking views of the sea. Coral formation rise from its crystal clear waters. Reaching heights of more than 12 feet, these coral remains are made of the same materials that have been used to build the baroque churches of the province.
9 Δεκ 2008 · On June 13, 1572, Salcedo and his men landed in Vigan and then proceeded towards Laoag, Currimao and Badoc. As they sailed along the coast, they were surprised to see numerous sheltered coves (“looc”) where the locals lived in harmony.
8 Νοε 2013 · Located in the barangay of Torre, Currimao, Ilocos Norte, this watchtower is made up mainly of corals and other kinds of stones that were found in the area. Only around 60 percent of its walls are still standing.
1 Αυγ 2019 · Ilocos Norte, in the northern Philippines, was the last in Region 1 (Ilocos Region) to have its six watchtowers recognized as being of national importance. Earlier, La Union was able to secure the categorization for its five watchtowers, while Ilocos Sur achieved the same for four towers.
