Understanding Malaysia’s cybersecurity landscape holds significant importance for several reasons. As Malaysia embraces digital technologies, it becomes increasingly vulnerable to cyber threats. With the proliferation of online platforms and transactions, cyber criminals exploit vulnerabilities, posing risks to digital assets.

In 2017, 77 credit card information of Malaysians has been revealed on the Internet. In 2017, three (3) Government agency websites and 51 local small company websites have been invaded.
Malaysia was one of the first nations in South-East Asia to adopt a National Cyber Security Policy (NCSP). Formulated in 2006, the NCSP anchored the establishment of the relevant government agency and provided a solid foundation for the MCSS 2020-2024.

On cyber security, Malaysia was a regional first mover and compares well with many other countries. Its ongoing commitment was demonstrated in 2020 with new cyber-security strategies for the civil sector and for national defence.
CYBERCRIME. Cybercrime has surpassed drug trafficking as the most lucrative crime. Almost anybody who is an active computer/ online user would have been a cybercrime victim, and in most cases too its perpetrators. The younger generation are the most vurnerable.
