24 Οκτ 2024 · Mercury is toxic to human health, posing a particular threat to the development of the child in utero and early in life. All humans are exposed to some level of mercury. Human exposure occurs mainly through inhalation of elemental mercury vapours during industrial processes and through consumption of contaminated fish and shellfish.
16 Απρ 2013 · We discuss the most current knowledge on (1) the scale of Hg emission impacts (local-regional-global); (2) the relative importance of geogenic vs anthropogenic emission sources; (3) the recovery response time for ecosystems after emission controls (years-decades-centuries); and (4) the chronic low dose health effects of dietary exposure of CH 3 ...
Mercury (Hg) is an integral part of Earth's biogeochemical cycles, yet anthropogenic activities significantly elevate its environmental presence, posing considerable ecological and human health risks. Human exposure primarily arises from the consumption of Hg-contaminated freshwater and marine fish.
Mercury (Hg) is ubiquitary, naturally enriched in volcanic regions, and has wide applications in science, industry, and agriculture. Recently, the increasing awareness of Hg toxicity has led to...
Mercury pollution poses global human health and environmental risks. Although mercury is naturally present in the environment, human activities, such as coal burning, have increased the amount of mercury cycling among the land, atmosphere, and ocean by a factor of three to five.
Global change interacts with the Hg cycle by impacting the physical, biogeochemical and ecological factors that control these processes. In this review we examine how global change such as biome shifts, deforestation, permafrost thaw or ocean stratification will alter Hg cycling and exposure.
