With this tank volume calculator, you can easily estimate the volume of your container. Choose between ten different tank shapes: from standard rectangular and cylindrical tanks to capsule and elliptical tanks. You can even find the volume of a frustum in cone bottom tanks.
Calculate tank volume in gallons and liters for cylinder, oval, capsule, sphere, and rectangular style tanks.
The actual volume in the cylinder actually depends on the height of liquid H in the tank. The partial volume filled can be calculated with the following equation : Vcylpartial = L*D^2/4*(sin -1 (2*H/D-1)+ π/2+(2*H/D-1)*(2*H/D*(2-2*H/D)) 0.5 )
The general formula to calculate the partial volume filled in the top head of the tank is the following [Wiencke] : Vtop_head_partial = π/12*[3*ID 2 *H - (4*H 3 )/c 2 ] This formula is valid when the total height of liquid is above the cylindrical shell height and starts to reach the to head : 0 <= (H-IDD-CL) <= IDD
Use this tank volume calculator to easily calculate the volume of a water tank, oil tank, fuel tank, and so on. The tank size calculator supports a dozen different tank shapes: cylinder, rectangle, oval, capsule, elliptical, etc. and outputs tank volume (cu ft, cu m) and liquid volume (US/UK gallons, litres, BBL).
Volume of a cylinder formula. The formula for the volume of a cylinder is height x π x (diameter / 2)2, where (diameter / 2) is the radius of the base (d = 2 x r), so another way to write it is height x π x radius2. Visual in the figure below:
