21 Μαρ 2009 · Daniel Takashi Sakai. Sergeant Daniel Sakai and Sergeant Ervin Romans, SWAT team members, were killed when they attempted to apprehend a suspect that had earlier in the day shot and killed Sergeant Mark Dunakin and mortally wounded Officer John Hege during a traffic stop.
21 Μαρ 2009 · As SWAT officers made entry, Mixon opened fire with an assault rifle from behind a closet door, killing Sergeant Ervin Romans and Sergeant Daniel Sakai. A third officer was wounded. Officers returned fire and Mixon was killed.
SWAT Sergeant Daniel Sakai, age 35, had been with the OPD since 2000. [ 14 ] Officers Dunakin, Romans, and Sakai died on the day of the shooting, while Officer Hege died from his injuries three days later.
Police Department. After graduating from the College of Natural Resources, University of California at Berkeley with a degree in forestry and natural resources, Daniel worked as a community service officer with the UC Berkeley Police Department for five years. Daniel began his career with the Oakland Police Department in December 2000.

Unfortunately we had several visits to our house by OPD and fortunately officer Daniel Sakai was there to help us calm situations down. What a charming, handsome, rational peace keeper he was. I felt much safer in an unsafe area knowing he was around.
