9 Αυγ 2024 · De Quervain thyroiditis, or subacute granulomatous thyroiditis, is a form of self-limited subacute thyroiditis usually preceded by an upper respiratory tract viral infection such as mumps, measles, coxsackie virus, adenovirus, and influenza viruses. It usually affects middle-aged females.

It is one of the most common thyroid disorders and causes of hypothyroidism 17. Epidemiology. Hashimoto thyroiditis affects ~2% of all women (F:M = 10-15:1), most commonly in the 30-50 year range 17,22.
This case illustrates imaging and cytological features consistent with subacute granulomatous thyroiditis.
1 Ιαν 2003 · Thyroid function tests showed reduced T3 (60 ng/dL) and T4 (as thyroxine, 8 mcg/dL) levels. Contrast-enhanced CT showed an enlarged right thyroid lobe with decreased attenuation (Fig 6). A diagnosis of subacute thyroiditis was made, and the patient was treated with antibiotics and steroids.

Patients with mild to moderate pain are generally treated with rest and salicylic acid 600 mg orally every 6 hours, naproxen 500 to 1000 mg twice a day, or ibuprofen 400 to 800 mg orally every 8 hours.
24 Ιαν 2023 · Subacute thyroiditis (also known as De Quervain’s thyroiditis, granulomatous thyroiditis, or giant cell thyroiditis) is inflammation of the thyroid characterised by a triphasic course of transient thyrotoxicosis, followed by hypothyroidism, followed by a return to euthyroidism.
De Quervain's thyroiditis was first described in 1904 and is much less common than Hashimoto's thyroiditis and may be missed if not looked for in a case of odynophagia. The gland swells up and is very painful and tender.
