DeCal Program is undoubtedly one of the many unique aspects of Berkeley’s undergraduate program, and all students are encouraged to consider taking a course! Around 3000-4000 UC Berkeley students take DeCals each semester. DeCals are an excellent way of meeting the University’s minimum unit requirement, developing a new or past interest, and meeting peers in a small, comfortable environment.
FIRST-YEAR. You are a first-year applicant if you are currently in high school or have graduated from high school and have taken no college coursework in a regular session (fall, winter, spring). Berkeley uses a holistic review process to assess applications and to build a strong and diverse class.

For Spring semester, most classes are put up in mid-January. When can I start applying to DeCals? When are applications due? Application deadlines are dependent on the DeCal course. Make sure you read the “How to Enroll” section of your desired DeCal.
1 Οκτ 2023 · DeCal FAQ. Be aware that the DeCal student organization has different deadlines and requirements than the Academic Senate (COCI). Limitations: The Center will approve DeCal courses on a first-come, first-served basis. Individual faculty members may sponsor one DeCal course per semester.
