31 Μαρ 2020 · For several years, I've been traveling to see the ice of the deepest lake in the world—Baikal, and here are some beautiful photos from my expeditions. Lake Baikal is the cleanest on planet Earth. It is located in Siberia and is part of Russia.

Lake Baikal is the world’s largest freshwater lake, measuring 640 kilometers (395 miles) long, and the deepest lake, with a depth of up to 1,700 meters (1 mile). Scientists also consider Baikal to be among the planet’s oldest lakes, having formed about 25 million years ago, according to UNESCO.
At 636 km (395 mi) long and 79 km (49 mi) wide, Lake Baikal has the largest surface area of any freshwater lake in Asia, at 31,722 km 2 (12,248 sq mi), and is the deepest lake in the world at 1,642 metres (5,387 feet; 898 fathoms).

6 Απρ 2018 · The Copernicus Sentinel-3A satellite takes us over southern Siberia and the world’s largest freshwater lake: Lake Baikal. Imaged on 14 March 2017, this deep lake is covered by ice. The entire lake is typically covered between January and May and in some places the ice can be more than 2 m thick.
