23 Σεπ 2024 · Mr. H.S. Sampath Thuyacontha, a retired Air Vice Marshal of the Sri Lanka Air Force has been appointed as the new Secretary to the Ministry of Defence. The appointment was made by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, under the authority vested in him by Section 52 (I) of the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
The Secretary of Defence, General Kamal Gunaratne, says that Sri Lanka Armed Forces have played a vital role in ensuring national security as well as nation building process over the past two years.
The Minister of Defence is an appointment in the Cabinet of Sri Lanka who is responsible for the implementation of the Government of Sri Lankas defence policy and the headquarters of the Sri Lankan Armed Forces.
