A typical example is shown below, with the point (-3, 4) indicated and labelled ‘A’. The horizontal axis is usually labelled as the ‘ x -axis’, and the vertical axis is usually labelled as the ‘ y -axis’.

The origin is at 0 on the x-axis and 0 on the y-axis. Locations on the coordinate plane are described as ordered pairs.
For example, let’s plot the points (0, 2) and (4, 0) on the coordinate plane. (0, 2) → 0 represents the x -coordinate and 2 represents the y -coordinate. This means you do not move left or right on the x -axis, you just move up 2 places on the y -axis. This point is on the y -axis.
