The principal axes of rotation imply three reference planes, each perpendicular to an axis: Normal plane, or yaw plane. Transverse plane, lateral plane, or pitch plane. Longitudinal plane, or roll plane. The three planes define the aircraft's center of gravity.

There are 3 axes systems which can be used in Aeronautics, Aerodynamics & Flight Mechanics: • Ground Axes – G(x0, y0, z0) • Body Axes – G(x, y, z) • Aerodynamic Axes – G(xa, ya, za) 1.1 Ground Axes (x0, y0, z0) are an orthogonal set of forces obeying the right hand rule.
The Axes of Flight . Each axis of flight is an imaginary line around which an airplane can turn. Think of an airplane rotating around an axis like a wheel rotates around an axle. Regardless of the type of aircraft, there are three axes upon which it can move: Left and Right, Forwards and Backwards, Up and Down.
z denote rotations about the Xaxis, Y axis and Zaxis, respectively. We can go from one reference frame to any other reference frame, using at most three Euler angles.
