Sociologists study phenomena at three levels of analysis: macro, meso, and micro. Typically, we’re dealing with individuals (micro level), organizations (meso level), and societies (macro level), but as the examples in each section of the diagram show, there are many other possibilities.
20 Φεβ 2021 · Sociological approaches are differentiated by the level of analysis. Macrosociology involves the study of widespread social processes. Microsociology involves the study of people at a more interpersonal level, as in face-to-face interactions.
Levels of analysis in social sciences refers to the size or scale of the target research population. We tend to talk about this concept in terms of micro-level analysis (microsociology) and macro-level analysis (macrosociology). Figure 1.6 illustrates the main focal point of each level of analysis.

Micro, meso and macro are levels or scales that can and may be mobilised in social analysis. This paper aims to contribute to the reflection and discussion, in particular, of the use of the meso level in the apprehension of social reality, in its potential advantages and disadvantages.
