Building a groin to build a beach will trap a large amount of sediment and have a greater impact on down-drift properties. Will the groin function? 20 Φεβ 2024 · The project was aimed to inform coastal planners and engineers about the deleterious effects of implementing coastal groin structures. My role in the project was to translate the ideas and knowledge of our storymap team into a coherent narrative.
Groins are built to stabilize a stretch of natural or artificially nourished beach against erosion that is due primarily to a net longshore loss of beach material. Groins function only when longshore transport occurs.
