30 Οκτ 2018 · In this chapter, we introduce the concept of Health Data Science and define its three domains: technology, analytics, and conceptual. In the technology domain, we drill down from computer science via health informatics to public health informatics.
The Master of Science (SM) in Health Data Science is designed to provide rigorous quantitative training and essential statistical and computing skills needed to manage and analyze health science data to address important questions in public health and biomedical sciences.
Health data research has huge potential to transform healthcare, now and in the future. It has played a major role in the COVID-19 pandemic by helping scientists and doctors understand more about this new disease, and enabling the NHS and decision-makers to respond to the challenge.
Our science is an evolving discipline that responds to the growing number of large and complex datasets in health and medicine. Health data science combines methods and tools from health research, statistics and computing sciences to address health and medical problems using data.
“Public health data science is the study of formulating and rigorously answering questions in order to advance health and well-being using a data-centric process that emphasizes clarity, reproducibility, effective communication, and ethical practices.”
It is clear that data science will be a driving force in transitioning the world’s healthcare systems from reactive “sick-based” care to proactive, preventive care. First, and most importantly, data science has the power to empower the consumer, giving them more control over their own care.
