7 Απρ 2017 · This article about state of the art microscopes is part of the Science in Sci-fi, Fact in Fantasy blog series. Each week, we tackle one of the scientific or technological concepts pervasive in sci-fi (space travel, genetic engineering, artificial intelligence, etc.) with input from an expert.
14 Ιουλ 2016 · At one point, the protagonist examined part of a picture (I think it may have been a detail with a bee) and discovered that the cellular structure of the bee was visible under a microscope. I have the impression that there was a theological angle to it.
19 Ιαν 2023 · In microscopy, the term “resolution” is used to describe the ability of a microscope to distinguish details of a specimen or sample. In other words, the minimum distance between 2 distinct points of a specimen where they can still be seen by the observer or microscope camera as separate entities.
1 Ιουλ 2020 · As science fiction writers, we’ve long been fascinated with the idea of scale. From the microscopic to the cosmic, the possibilities are endless, and the implications often mind-bending. But how do we deal with the challenges of scale, both in our imaginations and in real-world science?
24 Δεκ 2022 · Magnification is the ability to make small objects seem larger, such as making a microscopic organism visible. Resolution is the ability to distinguish two objects from each other. Light microscopy has limits to both its resolution and its magnification.
The main difference between magnification and resolution is their effect on image quality. Magnification enlarges the specimen, whereas resolution helps in improving the clarity.
Microscope Resolution. What it shows: The wave nature of light limits our ability to see the very small. Application of the Rayleigh limit of resolution tells us that the size of the smallest objects one can resolve under a microscope is approximately equal to the wavelength of light.
