25 Απρ 2024 · So what does poor mean in the Bible? Although there are a few exceptions, the term poor in Scripture means economic or material poverty. Review the following verses and notice the characteristics and common terms: “insufficient food,” “cannot afford,” “cannot support himself,” “debt” and “shabby clothes.”
Occurring almost as many times is אֶבְיﯴן, H36. It is used mostly of those who have little or no material possessions. These are the poor who are subject to oppression and abuse (Amos 2:6; 5:12). They are to be the special objects of concern (Exod 23:11; Deut 15:11; Prov 31:9).

18 Μαΐ 2020 · It’s impossible in an article format to cover comprehensively what the Bible says about poverty, but here are seven major themes that have emerged from my research on poverty for my recent book, Jesus’ Economy: A Biblical View of Poverty, the Currency of Love, and a Pattern for Lasting Change.
Several causes for poverty are given in the Bible. Sometimes it is due to the action of the individual himself: laziness (Prov 6:6-11), pleasure-seeking (21:17), frivolity (23:21), and stubbornness (13:18); all produce poverty.
Poverty is a result of laziness ( 6:10-11 ; 10:4 ; 20:13 ; 24:33-34 ), lack of discipline ( 13:18 ), idleness ( 14:23 ; 28:19 ), haste ( 21:5 ), excess ( 21:17 ; 23:20-21 ), and injustice ( 13:23 ). The Wisdom Literature paints a realistic picture of poverty in the ancient world.
7 Νοε 2024 · The Bible has a lot to say about being poor, and we have many examples of poor people in Scripture. Since material wealth is not a sure indication of God’s blessing, being poor is not necessarily a sign of God’s disapproval.
