Nontheism or non-theism is a range of both religious [1] and non-religious [2] attitudes characterized by the absence of espoused belief in the existence of God or gods. Nontheism has generally been used to describe apathy or silence towards the subject of gods and differs from atheism, or active disbelief in any gods.
Nontheistic religions (not to be confused with atheism) are traditions of thought within a religious context—some otherwise aligned with theism, others not—in which nontheism informs religious beliefs or practices. [1]
23 Οκτ 2017 · Nontheist is a term covering a wide range of beliefs, all characterized by lacking belief in any gods, rejecting of belief in gods, or deny the existence of any gods. A nontheist is a nonbeliever. The definition of nontheist is effectively the same as the definition of atheist.
The Second Vatican Council reflected something of these rational and moral pressures in its positive evaluation of the ethics, spirituality and theism of many great world faiths, although, understandably and perhaps rightly, it did not question traditional Christian belief in the finality of Christ.
Nontheistic conceptions of the divine could be classified and discussed in many ways. One approach would be to construct a typology of possible nontheistic understandings, but this would be tedious and not terribly useful.

Nonreligious people (those without a religious affiliation) and atheists (individuals without a belief in a god) make up a sizable proportion of the world’s population. In this chapter I provide definitions for the various terms used in the sociological study of nonreligion and atheism.
