Definition. Pain threshold is defined as the minimum intensity of a stimulus that is perceived to be painful. Previously, this threshold was believed to be uniform across individuals, such that given intensity of a stimulus was thought to produce a given pain response.
Table 1 shows that pain threshold, pain tolerance, total pain index as well as pain experience intensity was significantly different in the three groups. Intergroup analysis revealed significantly higher pain threshold and pain tolerance in the two groups compared to the control group.
Pain threshold increases with age, which is indicated by a large effect size. This age-related change increases the wider the age-gap between groups; and is especially prominent when heat is used and when stimuli are applied to the head.

19 Ιουν 2012 · We revealed an obvious effect of sex on pain threshold, which increased with age, a small effect on pain tolerance and no significant effect on endurance. Independent of sex, pain endurance was influenced by pain‐related self‐efficacy and positive self‐instruction.
Pain threshold is defined as the lowest stimulus intensity that reliably elicits the perception of pain. Attention as well as motivational and emotional factors are known to influence the pain threshold that can be measured in the laboratory.
