14 Ιαν 2019 · Consequently, national and regional governance factors interact continuously. In this paper, I look first at the emergence of the African state system historically, including colonial legacies and the Cold War’s impact on governance dynamics.
The analysis of the state of governance in Africa since 2000 points to four key trends, which this paper explores in depth: Effective state institutions, capable of maintaining peace, fostering growth and delivering services, have developed unevenly.
