Demodectic mange may occur in older dogs because the immune system often declines with age. Dogs who have a weakened immune system due to illness, malnutrition, or certain medications are also susceptible to demodectic mange.
Fever and inflammation are often seen with this condition. In older dogs, a similar condition can occur, but indicates either a medication or underlying condition is compromising the immune system.
