27 Απρ 2022 · The baby boomer generation, comprising people aged 56 to 75, continues to be the largest in Canada, despite the fact that they are aging. The 2021 Census counted 9,212,640 baby boomers. However, the demographic weight of baby boomers in the overall population is declining.
The dashboard shows the proportion of the total population by broad age group, the proportion of centenarians, the distribution of the population by age and gender, the average age, the number of people aged 15 to 64 per person aged 65 years and older and the gender ratio by age group.

Ontario’s total fertility rate (TFR), which stood at 3.8 children per woman around 1960, fell below the replacement level of 2.1 children per woman in 1972. Over the rest of the 1970s, the TFR fell rapidly toward the 1.50 to 1.70 range where it was hovering until recently.
Canada has just over one child or older person for every two working-age people. The demographic dependency ratio represents the number of children (0 to 14 years) and older people (65 years and older) per 100 working-age people (15 to 64 years). On July 1, 2021, the ratio was 52.1.
The 2011 National Household Survey (NHS) provides data that allow the analysis of the Canadian population on the basis of generation status. This term 'generation status' refers to whether a person or their parents were born in Canada.
1. Continued Population Growth. Since 1971, Ontario’s population has almost doubled, from 7.8 million to 14.6 million in 2019. Over this time period, the provincial population grew at an average pace of 1.3 per cent, or 140,000 annually. Ontario’s share of the Canadian population also rose, from 35.7 per cent in 1971 to 38.8 per cent in 2019.
