Deontology emphasizes the importance of following certain rules or principles no matter what favorable outcomes may be produced along the way.
Deontology focuses on rights and duties rather than outcomes, as in utilitarianism. Two deontological principles are (1) consider what would occur if everyone were to take the action you are considering, and (2) treat people as ends, not just as means to an end.
