9 Ιουν 2021 · In clinical laboratories, identification of dermatophytes classically relies on morphological traits of the fungus from macroscopic and microscopic examination of the cultures, thus requiring skill and expertise.
Dermatophytes test medium (DTM) is one of those firstly developed media for rapid presumptive identification of dermatophytes . Unfortunately, some non-dermatophytes mould (NDM), either pathogenic or saprophytic, can survive the type and concentration of the used antifungal agents.
This test has been evaluated for the detection of dermatophytes from the skin specimen and has shown the sensitivity of 62% with high negative predictive value of 92%. However, the main disadvantage of this technique is that it cannot be applied for hair or nail samples.
1 Ιουλ 2010 · Dermatophyte cultures can be challenging to perform and interpret correctly. However, knowing how to best collect samples for culture, select and incubate culture media, and identify media culture changes and fungal colony morphology will help you avoid a misdiagnosis.
17 Δεκ 2020 · Dermatophytosis is conventionally diagnosed using direct microscopic examination, gold standard culturing, and other identification techniques as microcultures and biochemical tests. This is a long, time-consuming process, requiring experts and specific diagnostic protocol [6].
11 Νοε 2023 · Taken together, these results demonstrate excellent performance characteristics for the detection of dermatophytes by the DendrisCHIP ® DP, making it very promising for routine dermatophytosis diagnostics. It can help the clinicians to initiate timely and appropriate antifungal therapy.
11 Φεβ 2020 · Dermatophytes are the aetiological factors of a majority of superficial fungal infections. What distinguishes them from other pathogenic filamentous fungi is their unique ability to degrade keratin.
