30 Σεπ 2024 · The latest edition of the EU Copernicus Ocean State Report highlights the pace and extent of ocean warming due to anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions. It reports a series of record-breaking ocean temperatures, marine heatwaves stretching down to the deep ocean, unprecedented sea ice loss and rising levels of heat stored in the ocean.
The ocean has warmed unabated since 2005, continuing the clear multi-decadal ocean warming trends documented in the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report (AR5). The warming trend is further confirmed by the improved ocean temperature measurements over the last decade.
