A subdivision of Phoenix, with South Mountain Park as a border, Ahwatukee Foothills, Arizona, offers trail activities as well as a sanctioned chili cookoff.
At more than 16,000 acres, South Mountain Park/Preserve is one of the largest municipally managed parks in the nation and consists of three mountain ranges - the Ma Ha Tauk, Gila and Guadalupe. The park boasts more than 100 miles of trails for hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking.
29 Αυγ 2019 · The southern portion of South Mountain Preserve is tucked deep into the Ahwatukee Foothills. The main trailheads in this section of the park are the newly redesigned Desert Foothills Trailhead and the 19th Avenue South Trailhead. The most popular trails are Telegraph Pass and the Pyramid Trail.
It's an easy out-and-back to a loop that takes you up into the Ahwatukee Foothills and provides some spectacular views of the surrounding neighborhoods and South Mountain Preserve. Half of the loop requires a bit of a climb but you will be rewarded with some amazing views.
The Ahwatukee Foothills Village is bordered by Interstate 10 to the east, South Mountain to the north, and the Gila River Indian Community & Loop 202 to the west and south. [1] Ahwatukee is geographically isolated from the rest of Phoenix, and was once seen as appropriate for semi-rural development.
