21 Φεβ 2010 · I created several icons on the desktops of 4 computers after clean installed the computers with Windows 7 Profession (either with 32 bit or 64 bit versions). After a few days, some of the desktop icons disappear.

If your icons have disappeared right click your start menu and choose the icons you want on your desktop. If your icons have been hidden, on an explorer window, click Organise --> folder and search options --> View menu --> Select the 'SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS' and click apply.
19 Μαρ 2013 · A workaround I tried is to put the network shortcuts into the C:\Users\Public\Desktop folder. Of course they would show up on the desktop for any user of the machine, but in my case, there was only 1 user of the laptop, so it works fine for her. Not a fix, but an acceptable solution, in my case.
I can re-enable the icons via right-click on desktop > Ansicht > Desktop Symbole anzeigen) (translation: right-click on desktop > View > Show Desktop Icons) But on logoff/logon the icons are lost again!
On your Windows 7 PC, shortcuts that you create on the desktop may be missing. This can happen if the the System Maintenance troubleshooter detects the shortcuts as broken. The System Maintenance troubleshooter performs a weekly maintenance of the operating system.
