Workaround. To work around this issue, use one of the following methods. Method 1: Remove all but 4 broken shortcuts from your desktop. Keep the number of broken shortcuts on your desktop to four or less. You might accomplish this by removing all but 4 of your most used shortcuts on the Desktop.
The icons do appear when navigating to "Desktop" under Users > (John ...) > Desktop. But the icons are NOT appearing on the actual Desktop. I have restarted my PC twice with no change.
24 Απρ 2010 · I'm having an issue with icons that have suddenly gone missing in Windows 7. The icons for several programs and their associated files have been replaced with a generic Windows icon (as if there is no file association).
If your icons have disappeared right click your start menu and choose the icons you want on your desktop. If your icons have been hidden, on an explorer window, click Organise --> folder and search options --> View menu --> Select the 'SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS' and click apply.
