The Detroit Police Department asked for federal agencies to become involved in taking down YBI in 1980, but the idea of being a gang member remained in many young peoples' minds. The public also developed a general distrust and overall hysteria over the threat of gangs in the city.

Detroit Connection Pt. 1: Leader of Y.B.I. (Milton Butch Jones): Directed by Flip Willson. With Sylvester 'Sil' Murray, Bay-Bay, BooZoo, Nathaniel Craft. Young Boys Incorporated, also known as YBI, was among the first African-American drug cartels that operated on street corners and created the formula for modern day "super gang" drug dealing.
In 1982, 40 affilliates with YBI were indicted in the first federal crackdown on YBI. 32 individuals were later convicted and sentenced for various drug charges throughout the following years. The indictment said that YBI leaders used youth as runners to distribute the drugs and amassed millions of dollars in profits in the late 70s and early 80s.
Young Boys Incorporated, also known as Y.B.I., was a major drug organization in Detroit, Michigan, who were among the first African American drug cartels to operate on inner-city street corners.
