Diagnostic assessments are a type of test that diagnose students’ depth of knowledge and clarify misconceptions, so that teachers know which topics they need to teach (or re-teach) from the curriculum. They are usually set for individual classes to help with lesson planning, but for larger cohorts, they can help to create entire subject programs.
