It is a particle of appeal or entreaty, like the (English yea) (German ja): with an imperative, ναί... συλλαμβάνου αὐταῖς , Philippians 4:3 (where Rec. has καί for ναί ); ναί ἔρχου , Revelation 22:20 Rec. ; so ναί ναί , Judith 9:12.
In the Bible, ‘ναί’ (nai) is found in verses such as Matthew 5:37, “But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil,” and 2 Corinthians 1:20, “For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.”
In Scripture, it is used to denote certainty, consistency, harmony, and stability. All the promises of God in him are yea, and in him are amen. 2 Corinthians 1. In this use, the word may be considered a noun. Yea is used only in the sacred and solemn style. See Yes.
