Digit Span (DGS) is a verbal task that measures verbal short term and working memory in two formats, Forward Digit Span and Reverse Digit Span. Learn how to administer, score and interpret this cognitive assessment tool.
Retaining Digit Span Forward ensures sufficient floor items for children with intellectual disability or low cognitive ability. The child’s performance on Digit Span Forward, Backward, and Sequencing can also be examined separately using the Digit Span process scores.
The task is known as digit span when numbers are used. Memory span is a common measure of working memory and short-term memory. It is also a component of cognitive ability tests such as the WAIS. Backward memory span is a more challenging variation which involves recalling items in reverse order.
Digit Span is a test of verbal short-term memory that measures how many digits you can recall in order or reverse order. Learn how to optimize your performance, how the brain processes verbal information, and how digit span relates to intelligence and language learning.
Lamar and colleagues (2007, 2008) devised The Backward Digits Test (BDT), a digit backward paradigm designed specifically to assess for working memory deficits in dementia. This test consists of seven trials of 3, 4, and 5-digit span lengths for a total of 21 trials.
4 Μαΐ 2017 · Backward digit span recall was associated with the activation of the right DLPFC, the FEF, the frontal operculum cortex, anterior insular cortex, and the dACC, while forward digit recall was associated with precuneus and lateral visual areas.
21 Δεκ 2023 · Digit Span has been a core Working Memory task, with extensive research conducted on the Forward and Backward components. The latest revision of the WAIS-IV introduced the Sequencing component, designed to increase the working memory and mental manipulation demands.
