DisplayPort is an interface that is specifically used for connecting a source of video and resulting in a good display on your device like monitors and projectors. The best part is it also carries audio and other forms of data. DVI is the older version of the video source connector.
Instead of figuring out dual link DVI-I, DVI-D for hi res panels, you can just use DisplayPort which is supported by many GPU cards now. DVI: Video only, perfect for older systems or for 144Hz at 1080p. DisplayPort (DP): The best connector for an audio and video signal, and can transmit 144Hz up to 4K. VGA: Old, legacy video connector. Only to be used when nothing else available. USB Type-C: Newest audio, video, data and power connector.
