24 Απρ 2017 · Diurnal tides occur when there is so much interference by continents, only one high tide and one low tide occur per day. In the Americas, diurnal tides only occur in the Gulf of Mexico and the coast of Alaska.
Tides are commonly semi-diurnal (two high waters and two low waters each day), or diurnal (one tidal cycle per day). The two high waters on a given day are typically not the same height (the daily inequality); these are the higher high water and the lower high water in tide tables.
Definition. Diurnal tides are a type of tidal pattern characterized by a single high tide and a single low tide each lunar day, typically occurring approximately every 24 hours.
Diurnal tide cycle (upper left). An area has a diurnal tidal cycle if it experiences one high and one low tide every lunar day. Many areas in the Gulf of Mexico experience these types of tides.
A diurnal tide consists of only one high tide and one low tide per day (Figure 11.3.1). “Diurnal” refers to a daily occurrence, so a situation where there is only one complete tidal cycle per day is considered a diurnal tide.
Both the lunar orbital plane and the ecliptic precess, modulating the declinational tides. The Moon's orbit precesses over 18.6 years, its angle to the Ecliptic varying between 5 080 and 5 080. In relation to the Earth's equatorial plane the variation is between 23 270 5 080 and 23 270+ 5 080.

Semidiurnal Tides —a region that experience 2 high tides and two low tides of approximately equal size each lunar day. For example, the Atlantic Coast of North America has semidiurnal tides.
