SONOpan panels are practical, lightweight and simple to install behind drywall an ideal soundproofing solution for any room, home or building. Simply adding SONOpan to one side of a wall or ceiling will effectively soundproof both sides.
This stuff is very light and easy to work with. You could use either the pink kind or the white kind. The pink kind may have been a little easier to work with but costed almost twice as much. I found these 4x8 sheets of expanded polystyrene on sale at Menards for about $12 each. I used 6 of them in total.

After doing some research, these boards seemed like the best bet. It is super light which makes moving the panels around quite easy. I was able to pick up 4x8 sheets at a local Home Depot. They offer 2" and 3" boards as well but 1" was plenty sturdy.
2 Νοε 2022 · I used 1 inch thick styrofoam 4x8 sheets from home depot. This hole allows air to get in or out. Cover the hole with window screen material or whatever else you decide on.
3 Οκτ 2014 · I will be adding a star ceiling to my theater which will be approximately 8'x12' so I was thinking of mounting the fibers on 3 4x8 panels that are attached to 2x4s about 3.5" below the joists. What would be the best material to use for the 4x8 panels? My goal is to not show seams so is paint or fabric the way to go? James.
