Gel Electrophoresis Adventure Intro The final goal of this lab was to successfully measure the size of different samples of DNA by placing each sample into a well in agarose gel and running a current through a charged chamber. The DNA samples will move through the gel towards the positive char...
Introduction. This lab will determine the presence or absence of amplified DNA in your samples by visualization on an agarose gel. Arthropod and Wolbachia DNA, if present, will be distinguishable based on the size, or base pair (bp) length, of the DNA molecule.
Sam Connor Gel Electrophoresis Lab Report Abstract: Students used Gel Electrophoresis to figure out which boy had cystic fibrosis out of two brothers. The DNA was placed in a gel made from seaweed called agar. The DNA containing cystic fibrosis would travel to the positively charged end of the c...
Lab Report: Gel Electrophoresis. Introduction Gel electrophoresis is a laboratory technique that is used to separate mixtures–typically mixtures of DNA, RNA, and proteins–based on their molecular size (smaller DNA molecules travel faster and a greater distance than larger DNA molecules).
In this lab, we saw how gel electrophoresis could be used to determine the molecular composition and the specific charge. We were able to use gel electrophoresis successfully to determine how many different DNA, RNA, or proteins are present in a sample and how large they are in comparison to one another.
Gel electrophoresis stated by google, “Is a laboratory method used to separate mixtures of DNA, RNA, or proteins according to molecular size. In gel electrophoresis, the molecules to be separated are pushed by an electrical field through a gel that contains small pores.”
Electrophoresis process involves putting DNA (negatively charged molecules) in a bacterial gel. The bacterial gel is having an electrical charge, and once in engaged, the negatively charged molecules (DNA) will move to the positive charge.
