18 Απρ 2005 · I just rebuilt a 2001 2.7 engine at 114,000 miles and YES it had a sludge problem. Technically, it was only the water pump broke, but it was so sludged up that I had to rebuid the entire engine. The two things that I see is... when the water pump starts to go bad (and it will), water is released in the oil.

16 Νοε 2020 · The 2.7 liter engine originally had a tendency to generate sludge which caused engine failure. Similar problems have been appearing on Toyota and Volkswagen engines.
6 Οκτ 2003 · 2.7 problems. have your engine checked out for sludge build-up asap. it's a known problem, however chrysler isn't admitting it yet. most engines begin to have problems around 70,000 or so.
18 Ιαν 2023 · These engines have an astounding failure rate, and it’s rare for any engine to experience as many problems due to anything as basic as a faulty water pump gasket, inadequate oil capacity, or improper use.
17 Φεβ 2007 · There is probably oil in the coolant, which means there is a leak somewhere, water pump, head gasket, etc. Its probably also sludged up, and may need a timing chain and guides. Check out this thread. It is a good option for replacing the engine, and is cheaper and more reliable than getting another 2.7. Dan C.
The Chrysler 2.7 L V6 engine is equipped with a Sequential Multi-Port Electronic Fuel Injection system and Direct Ignition System (DIS). Redline is 6,464 rpm for the original version and 6,600 rpm for the LX. It has an 86.0 mm (3.39 in) cylinder bore and 78.5 mm (3.09 in) piston stroke.
